Frequently Asked Questions
DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? Send us an email at info@cookslane.ca
Q1. Why is it called "C'ooks Lane Haunted Hallowe'en"?
A. I believe it was Pat that initially suggested the name. We are located on Listowel Line in Ennismore. Back in the 1800's, the road was named Crooks Lane. Later, this was shortened to C'ooks Lane as some were offended by the derogatory reference. This information came via a book on the history of the Township called "The Holy Land". The book is available for sale at the local library if you interested in learning more about our Area History. We felt this was a unique name that pays homage to local history.
Q2. One of the most common questions we get is: Is it scary? or the variation: How scary is it, really?
A. You bet your life it is! It is scary enough that we do not recommend victims under nine years old attend. If you are foolish enough to bring your child, it's your funeral! We had a number of guests who were under nine, and many of them left screaming and crying. I wouldn't want to be the one up all night with the nightmares, but maybe you like that kind of thing.
Q3. Are there chicken doors?
A. We advertise no chicken doors, and NO refunds. Having said that, one out of every nine people attending in 2007 chickened out in some way. A bunch wouldn't even get out of the car! And that was in the broad daylight. But they didn't get a refund!
Q4. Other events do the same skits every year. Do you?
A. No way! If there is one thing you can count on, it is that no two years will be alike. Sometime in the future, we may revisit some of our classic skits, but never in consecutive years.
Q5. What makes you different from everyone else? Why should I attend?
A. Actually, that's two questions..but I digress. We think that the biggest thing that makes us different is that we use primarily live actors performing a theatrical scene in which our guests are interactive participants. We don't rely on just one type of scare all through the "house". You should attend because this is likely quite a bit different than anything you might have seen before.
Q6. What can I expect when I come to C'ooks Lane?
A. You can expect to be scared. Period. If we divulged any more than that, then we'd have to kill you (kidding!!). But seriously, if we tried to explain it, it would be like trying to give a haircut over the phone: it would take too long, and wouldn't turn out right. So I guess you're just going to have to be big and brave and come on down here and see for yourself.
Q7. Where do you get your ideas from?
A. Out of our sick and twisted little minds. Seriously. We sit around in the off-season and brainstorm skit ideas. We do our market research, and we attend the MidWest Haunters Convention for inspiration, but if we see something that works somewhere else, we like to at least personalize it and make it our own. While many of our friends in high school were into partying, we immersed ourselves in all things horror. Pat says that we were born to do this. We have at least a year of ideas ahead of us at all times. Doing this is a creative process, just like songwriting or developing screenplays: the more you do it, the better you get at it.
Q8. Why do you do this?
A. We do it because we love scaring the #&!* out of people, because we want to provide an activity that enriches the community, and we do it because we know we are helping the less fortunate in our community.
